Introducing the new Patron of the

Descendants of the

Rats of Tobruk Australia Association Inc

                                      Warren Randall

Warren Randall has worked in the Australian Wine Industry for 42 years. He has managed vintages at Wynn Winegrowers, Seaview Champagne Cellars, Lindemans Wines, Seppelt Wines, Andrew Garrett Wines, Tinlins Wines, Seppeltsfield Wines, Ryecroft Wines, Quelltaler Estate and Boar’s Rock Wines.

Across the Randall Wine Group, which now includes Seppeltsfield Estate in the Barossa, Tinlins Wines in McLaren Vale, Ryecroft Wines in McLaren Vale and Quelltaler Estate in the Clare Valley, Warren’s combined viticultural assets are impressive. He presides over approximately 8,500 acres of premium South Australian vineyards, planted in the Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, Coonawarra, Langhorne Creek, Adelaide Hills and Currency Creek.

Warren has received numerous awards for his Entrepreneurship and Leadership in the Australian Wine Industry and Winery Tourism in Australia. In addition to his wine business interests, Warren is also owner of the Bridgewater Mill restaurant in the Adelaide Hills, shareholder of the Star of Greece restaurant on the Fleurieu Peninsula, and a Director of Australian Whisky Holdings, which owns the Nant, Lark, Overeem and Old Kempton distilleries in Tasmania.

He is the eldest son of Private Cyril Thomas Sydney Randall, who was a veteran of the North Africa and the South West Pacific Campaigns, and spent the entire time on these 2 tours with the 2/43rd Battalion.

His grandfather Joseph Thomas Randall was a WW1 veteran serving in England’s West Yorkshire Regiment. He served in France and Belgium and was taken by the Germans in Pozieres in France. He was a lucky survivor of the POW Camp.

Whilst Warren considers himself so lucky that he himself did not have to serve, and he has immense passion for those two men that served and risked life and limb as front line soldiers, for two freedoms which Warren vigorously exercises and is grateful for:

Freedom of Speech, and
Freedom of Choice (most important).

“If I do not exercise these freedoms, then I dishonour my Grandfather and my Father. I respect and appreciate these precious gifts that they have given me – it is one of the biggest drivers in my Life.”…….Warren.

This website and the information it contains would not be possible without the work of our many researchers behind the scenes, descendants and friends of the Rats. Special mention to Owen Carlton and Roger Murphy who have tirelessly worked for years verifying and documenting the Rats roll, our descendant Ray Windlow for his on-going work creating the tributes and store products for the Association, and others too many to mention who work towards keeping this story alive for the benefit of future generations. Much of the information reproduced has been sourced from the Australian War Memorial records, Battalion records, private memoirs, NAA and DVA service records and online documentation on events, places and people. All attempts possible have been made to verify its correctness and that due credit is acknowledged where known to the source.
